This International Housekeeping Week, we’re celebrating the team who make every stay at Novotel Northbeach Wollongong clean, comfortable and welcoming, while playing an important role in our sustainability journey.

 

Our Housekeeping team make a difference through the small decisions they make every day, helping us reduce waste, conserve resources and minimise unnecessary chemical use without compromising our cleaning and hygiene standards.

 

Small Changes, Every Day

Clean leftover kettle water can be reused for suitable cleaning tasks, such as cleaning balcony furniture, while water used during bathroom cleaning can also be utilised to wash guest room bins. These simple practices help us make better use of the resources already being used.

 

For daily dusting on suitable low-risk surfaces, our team uses slightly damp microfibre cloths, reducing the need for unnecessary cleaning chemicals. Windows can also be cleaned using warm water and a small amount of washing-up liquid instead of stronger chemical products where appropriate.

 

Sustainability never comes at the expense of hygiene. Bathrooms are disinfected daily, with targeted disinfectants used on high-touch areas and wherever deeper cleaning is required.

 

Saving Water, Energy & Laundry

Our guests are also part of the journey. Through our Greener Stay initiatives, we encourage the reuse of towels, robes and linen where possible, helping reduce water, electricity and detergent use.

Behind the scenes, our team switches off lights, air conditioning and equipment when not required, reports leaks promptly and separates recyclable materials such as bottles, cardboard and paper wherever possible.

Our Housekeeping team also follows colour-coded cleaning procedures and receives ongoing training in sustainable cleaning practices, helping protect both our guests and our people.
